John M. Dechman, 95, of Josephine passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. The son of the late Paul and Stephana (Hercez) Dechman, he was born on November 16, 1923, in Josephine.
John was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, the Graceton-Coral Sportsman Club, and the United Steel Workers. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the artillery division. John retired in 1986 from Latrobe Steel Company after 35 years of service.
John enjoyed working in his garden, riding his bike, and meeting and getting to know people. He had many friends.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Mildred (Holmes) Dechman, his daughter, Ann Marie; his sons, John Jr. and Ted; nephew, William Belash and wife Nancy, Latrobe; nieces, Stephana Campbell and husband Wayne, Ligonier; Sylvia Miller and husband George, Homer City; Victoria DeChurch and husband Larry, Indiana; and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Belash and Mary Dechman, and brothers, Theodore Dechman and Frank Dechman.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City. A Blessing Service will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Coral Site. Interment to follow in the St. Francis Cemetery, Coral.
