Alex "Ben" Bennett Sink

March 31, 1939 — November 25, 2023

Homer City

Alex (Ben) Sink 84, of Homer City, entered heaven’s gates on Saturday, November 25, 2023; and is once again dancing with his wife Kay, the love of his life.

Ben was born on March 31, 1939, in Homer City, PA to Aaron (Jack) and Louella (Davis) Sink. He married his beautiful bride Kay Lingle on July 22, 1960, after meeting on a blind date, a wonderful courtship, and proposing at the Kintersburg Covered Bridge.

Ben graduated from Laura Lamar High School and then served his country in the U. S. Navy.  Ben started working at an early age at the family store, Sink’s Market, in Homer City. He also worked at Syntron (FMC) and retired in 1994 from his long, dedicated career as a Lineman with Penelec (First Energy). Ben was a tireless worker who would respond in all weather conditions, anytime, day or night, to restore electrical service where needed.

He was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church and volunteered his knowledge, time, and talents to assist with maintenance and repairs. He fostered a beautiful friendship with Pastor Steve and enjoyed his church family. He enjoyed helping with church dinners (even if he had to wash dishes) and participating in the church talent shows.

Ben was a kind and caring person with a huge heart, he would not hesitate to help anyone in need. He treasured his family and friends and loved his time spent with all of them including his best buddy, Neko (The Italian Yorkie).

Ben loved listening to classic country music and watching cowboy movies, especially those staring John Wayne, and would affectionately refer to them as “shoot ‘em up” movies. He had several hobbies including woodworking, automotive and mechanical repair, solving electrical problems, and attending IUP and Homer Center Basketball games with his son Bill. Later in life, he discovered his talent for writing poetry and pencil drawing, but his ultimate passion was fly fishing with his son-in-law Terry, his brother Shorty, and his many friends.  His love of fly fishing took him many places throughout the United States and Canada. He learned the craft of tying flies and was quite successful landing trout with his creations. He was an accomplished storyteller as most fishermen tend to be. He was a member of the Plumville camp and never missed an opportunity to join in other camping adventures. He had a wonderful sense of humor which made his encounters with everyone enjoyable.

Ben is survived by his beloved dog Neko, his son Bill Sink (Susie Clement); daughters Debi Sink, and Cherie Jones (Terry), all of Homer City; grandsons (who affectionately called him “Poppy”), Ty Tonelli (Jess) and AJ Fisher; great-grandchildren Everleigh Walker and Oliver Ober; brother John Sink (Sue), sister Cal Campbell, all of Florida, and twin sister Bonnie Fennell of Homer City; sisters-in-law Janice Kavo, of Homer City and Delores Alter (Bill) of California; and many nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his loving wife Kay in July 2023, his parents, his brother Wayne (Shorty), and several other family members.

Ben fought a long difficult battle with Parkinson’s disease and the resulting complications. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many doctors who treated him and to his personal caregivers while at home, Shani, Trudy, and Chelsie; as well as the nursing and therapy teams from Anew Home Health; and the administration and staff of Rose Haven, The Gardens, and Communities at Indian Haven. Special acknowledgment and thanks to the administration and staff of Indiana Square Personal Care Home and to Kat, Marcy, and Crystal of ViaQuest Hospice for the care, guidance, and support they provided during Ben’s final days.

Friends will be received Thursday, 3-7 PM at Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Homer City where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday. Interment to follow in the Coral Lutheran Cemetery, Coral.
