Donald L. Zoni, 88, of Land O' Lakes Florida, formerly of Indiana, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in Florida. Born December 29, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Don was the son of the late Mary (Davis) Zoni of Indiana. Also preceding him in death were his sister Grace Schwartz, brother-in-law Daniel Schwartz and niece Barbara Schwartz of Pittsburgh and his brother-in-law Milton Hoffman of Buffalo, New York. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Carleen; daughter, Dara A. Edison; sister, Mrs. Miriam Hoffman; nephew Alan Hoffman & wife Ginger; niece Margie Altman & husband Alan; nephew Robert Schwartz & wife Ellen; great nephews Dr. Aaron Hoffman, Eric Altman & wife Andrea; great nieces Lisa Altman, Alexis Schwartz, Sara Schwartz; and great great niece Rachel Altman. He is also survived by many cousins. Don was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Business. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army Air Corps as a pilot in northern China and Africa's Ivory Coast. Mr. Zoni was a prominent local businessman and the former owner and operator of Luxenberg's Jewelers in Indiana for over 50 years. He loved being a part of and expressed pride in the growth and development of downtown Indiana. He was a member of the Beth Israel Synagogue in Indiana. Always upbeat and positive, his generosity and compassion touched many lives. Don was an avid golfer. His friends remember his infectious laughter, which could be heard all over the course. He had a passion for world travel and enjoyed experiencing other cultures. He treasured his friends, who were lifelong. He was a mentor and role model for many young people starting out in business, always offering encouragement. Don will be deeply missed by many. Friends will be received at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home in Homer City from 9:30 -11:30 AM on Sunday, September 9th, 2012, followed by interment at the Oakland Cemetery in Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial contribution be made to the American Diabetic Association or the American Kidney Foundation.
