Eugene J. Berfield

Eugene J. Berfield, 72, of Homer City, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late LaRue and Ilene (Haynes) Berfield and was born May 24, 1946, in St. Marys. Eugene was a member of the Homer City United Methodist Church, where he was an usher and served on various committees. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #313, Indiana, an IBEW 459 member and a first responder. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains. Eugene loved his grand dogs, was an avid hunter and golfer, and was a member of the Meadow Lanes Golf Course. Eugene worked as a control room operator for the Homer City Generating Station for 39 years prior to his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Marlene A.; three children: Gene A. Berfield, Homer City; Wendy S. Berfield (Thomas Yuha), Clune; and Chad R. Berfield (Kelly), Homer City; three stepchildren: Staci Fritz (Ted), Murrysville; Melissa Ryan (Gary), Indiana; and Robert Harvey (Ann Marie), Pittsburgh. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Darrin, Elizabeth and Isabella; Maitlyn and Brennen; Luke, Laura and Erik; Keegan, AJ and Ben; and Colin and Kelsey. One brother, Robert Berfield (Mary Rose), Whitehall, also survives him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth A. (Grimminger) Berfield. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City. Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Homer City United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Cemetery, Hyde. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
