Gary Alan DeCarlo

Gary Alan “Squatso” DeCarlo, 77, of Homer City, passed away on May 31, 2026. He was the son of the late (Louis DeCarlo & Mary DeCarlo) and was born November 2, 1948 in Indiana, PA. 

Gary was a graduate of Laura Lamar High School, Class of 1966, and later earned his degree from Clarion University. He devoted his professional life to education, serving as a teacher at Homer Center Elementary School, where he positively influenced generations of students through his dedication and commitment to learning. 

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn “LaRue” DeCarlo; his son, Derek Alan DeCarlo and wife Bethany of Greensburg; and his grandchildren, Lilliana and Nico DeCarlo, who brought him tremendous joy, 

Gary is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Boatman and husband James of Shelocta; his brothers, James Zerbini and wife Pat of Harrisburg, Mark DeCarlo and wife Andrea of Florida; his brother-in-law, Denny Stiles of Brush Valley and his good friend Woody Banks of Indiana. 

His nieces and nephews, Lori Zerbini, Justin DeCarlo, Jacob Zerbini, Cheri Joseph and husband Mike, Nicholas Moore, William Moore and wife Kathy, Chad Stiles, Emily Moore, and Colin Moore also survive him. 

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Linda C. Stiles; his brother-in-law, William L. Moore; and his nephew, Jason Moore. He touched countless lives throughout his years as an educator and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Homer City. Funeral Services will be private. Interment in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.
