George R. Wardo Jr of Homer City passed away November 5, 2016. George was born January 19, 1934 in Ramey, PA to George and Anna Wardo. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1958. He spent 33 years working in the coal mines. He was a member of the UMWA, American Legion Post #493, Tide Sportsmans Club, and Bethel Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed working outside, playing horseshoes, listening to country music, and watching football. George was a humble and honest man. A man of integrity. Even in his most difficult days, he didnt complain and kept his sense of humor. He was a family man who always put his family first. He would do anything for anyone. He was the Dad you could call anytime day or night and he would help you any way he could. He was the Pap who would get down on the floor and play with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his son Kerry Wardo and wife Debbie of Clarksburg, daughter Kelly Wardo McLean of Hopewell, son George M. Wardo and wife Connie of Homer City; grandchildren Matthew Wardo and wife Gina of Pittsburgh, Jaclyn Wardo Basa and husband Todd of Ernest, Tiffanie McLean Dunn and husband Scott of Hopewell, Dan McLean of Hopewell, and Jared Wardo of Homer City; great grandchildren Isaac, Jase, Kaden, and the Dunn twins. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Carol Jo Wardo, sisters Julia Shoff and Irene Godin, and parents George and Anna Wardo. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home in Homer City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Terry Semsick officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Church Cemetery.
