Helen Spiardi passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2017, in Monroeville, PA. Born in Brenizer, PA, on March 13, 1931, she was the eldest child of the late Antonio Leonardo Louie Diana and Josephine (Scalise) Diana. The family owned a general store and tavern in Cokeville, PA, and later a popular bar in Homer City. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband Fred Spiardi, brothers Nick Diana and James Diana, and a sister Louise Dolly Strong. She is survived by a daughter Dana Spiardi, of Murrysville (husband Ed Gerstenhaber), her sister Eleanor Babe Bellman of Blairsville, and brother Tony Diana of Bolivar. She is also survived by a nephew, Louie Bellman of Homer City, and a number of special nieces: Rhonda (Strong) Canigiani of Homer City, Gail Diana, Kathy Diana, and Linda Diana, all of Rochester, NY, Brenda Diana of Edgewater, FL, and Lisa McKee of Indiana, PA. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, 4606 Old US 119 Highway, Homer City, PA, 15748. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 10, at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemines site, 747 State Route 2023, Homer City, PA, 15748. Internment will follow at Saints Simon and Jude Cemetery in Blairsville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity.
