Irene Marie Kosmack

It is with deep love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Irene “Dolly” Kosmack. She went home to the lord May 4, 2026. Dolly was a remarkable woman who lived 94 full and meaningful years. She was the heart of her family, a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, a caring sister, and a loyal friend. Her life was a reflection of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and a deep commitment to serving others. As a Eucharistic Minister and active member of her church community, she lived her beliefs daily, finding joy and purpose in her devotion.

Her strength and selflessness were evident not only in her faith but in the sacrifices she made for her family. When tragedy struck, and her son and daughter-in-law were lost in a car accident, she stepped forward without hesitation, retiring to help raise her three grandchildren. Dolly dedicated herself fully to their care and well-being. With love, discipline, and endless devotion, she provided stability, guidance, and a future for her grandchildren. This was an extraordinary testament to her character and resilience.

Dolly spent time as a cook at Indiana Hospital. She was a wonderful cook and found great joy in the kitchen, where so many memories were made. She loved baking and was especially known for her tradition of creating personalized birthday cakes for every member of the family, year after year. Each cake was more than a dessert; it was an expression of love, thoughtfulness, and her joy in celebrating others. She was also famous for her Christmas cookies and took great pride in contributing to beloved Pittsburgh cookie tables, sharing her talents and traditions with family and community. Dolly had a special gift for crocheting, lovingly making afghans for each family member and their babies. In a final act of quiet generosity, she prepared a bin filled with handmade baby afghans, thoughtfully set aside for her great-grandchildren to receive in the years to come. A lasting symbol of her enduring love.

Dolly’s social spirit and zest for life were evident in her many activities. She was a proud member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Red Hat Society, and alongside her husband, she was part of the Red Barn Sportsman’s Club, where they were fondly known as the “Good Timers.” She loved line dancing and polka dancing, bringing energy and laughter wherever she went. She also enjoyed sewing, her coffee, and mowing the grass. She took great pride in her home and yard, always keeping them neat, welcoming, and full of beauty. She especially loved sitting on her porch, greeting and chatting with those passing by on the Hoodlebug Trail. Her simple joy reflected her warm and friendly spirit. Above all, she cherished time spent with those she loved.

She was one of her family’s biggest fans, faithfully attending her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. This was no small feat in such an athletic family. Through countless games, practices, and seasons, she cheered from the sidelines with pride and enthusiasm. She always liked to say that the family got their athleticism from her, a claim shared with a smile and a twinkle in her eye.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe; her son, Joe, and daughter-in-law, Jayne; granddaughter-in-law, Faith; her parents, Anna and Michael Valuchuck; and six sisters and one brother.

Dolly is survived by her daughter, Shelly McGaughey (husband Norm), grandchildren Joe Kosmack (wife Bianca), Janine (husband Chuck), Jason (wife Cortney, Taylor (husband Kevin), Sean (wife Jackie), and nine great-grandchildren.

While her passing leaves a profound void, there is comfort in imagining her joyfully arriving at “The Party,” reunited with those who left her soon. Dolly’s legacy will live on through the family she cherished, the lives she touched, and the traditions she created. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who knew her.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Homer City. A Blessing Service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemines Site. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
