Jaimie Anne Murphy Rising, best known with great love and affection as "Avia Meme," died Friday, May 16, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. She was a selfless mother who deeply loved her four children. Her ten grandchildren were her greatest joy. Jaimie was the daughter of John Augustine "Jack" Murphy and Christina Louise Hartsuff. She was born on February 22, 1961, in a Washington, D.C., hospital elevator.
Jaimie was an avid gardener. She spent many evenings planting stunning landscapes with the help of her husband of 44 years, Kenny (Ken Rising of Indiana, Pennsylvania). Ken loved her with all his heart.
Every moment of her life was dedicated to her family. If she wasn't gardening, she was visiting with her children and grandchildren. Jaimie loved talking about politics with her son, Sean (Sean Rising, Pittsburgh; Christina); going to the spa with her daughter, Meghan (Meghan Strawcutter, Indiana, Pennsylvania; Adam); listening to her daughter Sara (Sara Woods, Greensburg, Derek), sing and traveling with her son, Brian (Brian Rising, Pittsburgh; Patrick Sleckman).
She loved spoiling her granddaughter, Gabriella (Rising), with beautiful girly accessories, and reading books with her grandson, Gavin (Rising).
Her "puppers," Olivia Bliss and Lila May, received the most luxurious lifestyle. She taught her grandsons, Benjamin, Nicholas, Christian, and Jackson (Strawcutter), how to care for them - and they'll continue to do so in her absence. Jaimie loved watching movies with the boys and treating them to E.L. Fudge Cookies, Nutty Buddy's and ice cream. Wherever Meme was, one (or all) of the boys was with her.
Jaimie could often be found talking with her granddaughter, Shia (Woods), sharing their love for jewelry, smiling while watching Willow (Woods) sing, and laughing with her grandson, Wesley (Woods). She was proud of her newest grandson, Julian, whom she could be found holding and loving whenever he was near. Each grandchild had a special, unique relationship with Avia Meme; she will continue to be with them as they grow.
Jaimie was an elegant writer. She earned a 4.0 while pursuing her bachelor's degree in English and Journalism. On December 16, 2023, she graduated with an associate's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. On January 14, 2023, she earned her Child Development Associate's degree from Penn Highlands Community College. She was a devoted lead infant teacher at LOLAs Early Care and Education Center in Homer City, PA.
Jaimie's favorite time of the year was the family's annual trip to the Outer Banks, where she enjoyed each moment with all her children and grandchildren under one roof together. Jaimie taught her children and grandchildren many things, but most of all, to love one another. She led a truly inspirational life. Jaimie made time each week for all those that she loved, including her brothers and sisters; Dan Murphy (Reading, PA); Sean Murphy (Annapolis, MD) Sally Duminel (Pete) (Gainesville, GA), Thomas Murphy (Julie) (Cumming, GA), and Christina "Chrissy" Mull (Mike) (Chase City, VA) and many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
A private Requiem Mass was held on Friday, May 23, 2025, for Jaimie at St Thomas Moore University Parish. The Rite of Committal will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, in a Private Celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Jaimie.
