John Robert “Bob” Choma

  • John Robert ‘Bob’ Choma of Homer City passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 1, 2026 at the age of 87 at Indiana Regional Hospital. He was born July 13, 1939 to John and Hazel Choma. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy, USS McCaffrey. Following his military service, he worked as a welder at FMC in Homer City. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn ‘Cookie’ Choma, and his three children: John (Linda), Kristen (Jack), and Dena (Tony). He was the proud Grandfather to Tyler (Jessica), Johnny, Michael, and Carolyn, and especially proud Great-Grandfather to Nico Anthony. 

  • Bob was a member of the Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Lucerne Mines, where he was also a volunteer and a Knights of Columbus. Community service was a priority for Bob. He was a volunteer firefighter, an EMT and an IRP. He also volunteered at the Homer City Food Bank. He was awarded the Good Citizen Award by the Homer City Borough in 2014.

  • Bob’s greatest pride was his family. He never missed an opportunity to see his kids and grandchildren participate in the many activities they were involved in. His love was evident in the way he supported them, celebrated their accomplishments and remained interested in their lives. 

  • He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his love and devotion to his family, his involvement in his community, and sitting in his favorite chair on his front porch. Bob’s family would like to thank the compassionate and caring staff at the Indiana Regional Hospital’s ICU floor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Homer City Food Bank.

  • Friends will be received Monday, October 5th from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Homer City. A Blessing Service will be held Tuesday, October 6th at 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernmines Site. Graveside military services with be held at the St. Louis Cemetery following Mass.
