John Bernard Shimko, 86, Lucernemines died February 11, 2016 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late John L. and Rosemarie (Soss) Shimko and was born December 30, 1929 in Lucernmeines. John was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Indiana-Armstrong Builders Association and an Army Veteran. He was first employed by R&P Coal Company where he worked in the coke ovens and later was a self employed electrician where he worked up to his retirement a few years ago. John was survived by his wife, Audrey Jean (Cunningham); children, Kathleen (David) Zinza, Burnside; John Jr., Indiana and Ronald M., Lucernemines; grandchildren; Jennifer (Randy) Wilkinson, Wilmore; Matthew Zinza, Burnside, Jessica Tucciaroni, Perasie and Justin Shimko, Indiana. He was also survived by four great grandchildren, Isabella, Vincheno, Ava Grace and Brady.HIs siblings, Helen Zurbola, Florida; Charles Shimko, Florida and Rosemarie, Ohio also survive him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Shimko. Friends will be received, Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City. A Blessing Service will be held 10:30AM Monday at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemine Site with Rev. Father Ron Cyktor, the celebrant. Interment to follow in the St. Louis Cemetery, Lucernemines.
