Joseph M. Fornari, Sr., 91, died Monday, March 28, 2016 in Carmel, Indiana. He was the son of the late Emilio and Virginia (Mazzoni) Fornari. Mr. Fornari was born December 9, 1924 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Mr. Fornari was a member of the Indiana Pennsylvania Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Italian Education Class of Indiana, Pennsylvania. He was a devoted volunteer at Saint Andrew's Village Continuing Retirement Community in Indiana, Pennsylvania for 16 years. Mr. Fornari was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Parish, Lucernemines, Pennsylvania, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Association of Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Mr. Fornari was a graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla School of Engineering and was employed as a professional engineer for the Indiana, Pennsylvania based Rochester and Pittsburgh Coal Company for 40 years. During the Second World War, Mr. Fornari participated in construction of LST landing craft in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. He later relocated to the United States Naval Repair Base in San Francisco, California where he was responsible for maintaining United States Pacific Fleet battleship anti-aircraft artillery. Mr. Fornari is survived by his son, Joseph M. Fornari, Jr. and his wife Kathleen (Robb) of Pittsburgh; his daughter, Mary Frances and husband Michael D. Horvath of Carmel, Indiana; grandchildren, Brian Robb, Palm Beach, FL; Tamara and husband Joshua Mosier, Carmel, Indiana; Kristyn Horvath, Carmel, Indiana; and great grandchildren, Ethan Mosier and Madeline Mosier both of Carmel, Indiana. He is also survived by his sister, Assunta (Fornari) Stefancik of Cleveland, Ohio; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Arcilia (Raymond) Fornari; sister in law Rose Raymond; sisters, Mary Vicini, Helen Ferri, Edith Fornari, Emma Bresnock, Amelia Benson, and brothers John and Jack Fornari. Friends will be received Friday from 4-7 and Saturday from 9:30 until time of Blessing Service at 10:30 at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City, Pennsylvania. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Parish, Lucernemines Site with Reverend Father Ron Cyktor, the Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Saint Bernard Cemetery, Indiana, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF).
