Joseph Donald “Don” Luscia, 95, of Homer City, PA, passed away peacefully in the home where he was born, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born April 28, 1930, in Homer City, Don was the son of the late John and Mary (Reonari) Luscia. He spent his working life as a laborer and coal miner with the North American Coal Company. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
A man of deep faith, Don was Roman Catholic and a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lucernemines. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), the Homer City American Legion, Post #493, and a 64-year member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. McNelis Council.
Don is lovingly remembered by his family, his three daughters, Mary Ann (Bob) Ciranni, Donna Gatskie, and Diane (Bob) Ratay; and his six grandchildren, Janine Ciranni, Craig (Chantel) Ciranni, Vanessa Gatskie, Jimmy Gatskie, Kayla Ratay, and Megan (Jordan) Mason, one great-grandson, Luca Ciranni; along with many extended family members and friends.
Don was married on June 26, 1954, and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Verna (Henkel) Luscia. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Stephen and Anna Henkel; his sisters, Alba Sacco, Inez D’Alessandro, Livia Molnar, and Frances Marchshyn; brothers-in-law, Stephen, John, and Mike Henkel; and sisters-in-law, Marie Lafferty, Anna Marafka, Helen Nene, Betty Vellesig, Jean Halo, and Delores Gray.
A private family viewing will be held at Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Homer City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemines Site. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
