Josephine Grace Mucci

Josephine Grace (Rizzo) Mucci, 90, formerly of Homer City, died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the Communities of Indian Haven. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Rose (Presto) Rizzo and was born September 12, 1928 in Mentcle, PA. Josephine was married to Carl Mario Mucci on August 25, 1951 in Alverda, PA. Josephine enjoyed baking and cooking. She was known for her delicious cookies and Italian specialties which she loved sharing with family and friends. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Josephine is survived by her three children, Laura (William) Valazak, Indiana; Carla (Carl) Powe, Kiawah Island, SC; and Joseph (Linda) Mucci, Thornton, CO. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Valazak, Thomas Valazak, Nico Mucci and Katie Mucci, and great grandson Henry Carl Valazak. In addition, she is survived by her brother John Rizzo and sisters: Erma Somogyi, Helen Shilling, and Louise Moore, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, and the following brothers: Joseph, Anthony, Mario and James Rizzo; and sisters: Frances Higgins and Judy Bassett. Friends will be received Tuesday, April 16 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City. A Blessing Service will be held Wednesday, April 17 at 1 PM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemines site. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Josephine's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Communities at Indian Haven and the VNA Hospice team for the care they provided during her time as a resident there. Memorial donations in Josephine's honor may be made to the Homer City Food Bank, c/o Bonnie Craft, 45 W. Elm St, Homer City PA 15748.
