Kenneth E. Getty

Kenneth E. Getty, 80, of Homer City, passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born October 8, 1945, in Aultman, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Wayne S. Getty and Margaret (Phillips) Getty. 

Ken proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968. Following his military service, he worked in the coal mining industry for 31 years and later drove aschool bus for the Indiana Area School District until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 493, VFW Post 1989, and the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) Local Union 4702. 

Ken is survived by his wife, Denise (Rice) Getty, and his children: Sandy Getty (Norb Kuta) of Pittsburgh, PA; John (Elizabeth) Getty of Georgia; Shelly Getty of Tennessee; Farrah (Eric) Hankinson of Indiana, PA; Melissa (Dave) Bocz of Lucernemines, PA; and Briana (Joe) Abel ofHomer City, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Chasity (Matt), Cage, John Paul (Ema), Cobe, Ian, Calen, Peyton, Declan, Camry, Hunter, and Alden; his great-grandchild, John Wayne; and his siblings: Hazel Stephens, Robert Getty, Margaret "Peg" Leipper, Linda (Gary) Getty, and James (Sharon) Getty. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Scott (Lek) Rice and Bruce (Candi) Rice, along with several nieces and nephews and his beloved furry friend, Poppy. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; five infant siblings; his brother, Donald "Tango" Getty; his in-laws, James and Dorothy Rice; and his grandchild, Angel Bocz.

Ken loved golfing, bowling, motorcycles, chasing his grandkids with "nubby," spending time with his family, and having an "occasional" beer with friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for his family, and the many memories he created with those he loved. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to hospice nurse Lisa, hospice aide Candy, VA aide Eliot, Dr. Cash, and Dr. Heasley for their compassionate care.
