Margaret 'Margie' Mary (McKelvy) Bennett

Margaret Mary (McKelvy) Bennett, 77, of Indiana, PA, died peacefully, surrounded by family at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital on Sunday, February 21, 2016. Margaret had graciously fought a long battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and had been listed for a lung transplant for 10 months before succumbing to an acute exacerbation of the disease. Margie was born on October 23, 1938 in Pittsburgh. One of eight children, her family moved often throughout her childhood; she grew up in many places, including Davenport Iowa, Scranton, Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh before settling in Indiana. She attended St. Bernard School and graduated from Indiana Joint High School in 1956. She was hoping to attend her 60th class reunion later this year. She was trained in nursing at Mercy Hospital and attended Indiana State College before marrying her life-long soulmate, W. William Bennett in 1960. Bill and Margie built their life together in Indiana around family businessBennett Farm Delivery and Bennett Quality Cleaners. They were members of the Indiana Country Club where Margie was a golfer. Margie spent her life following after God and pursuing wisdom. Raised a Roman Catholic, she later attended local non-denominational churches including Tetelestai Church in New Kensington and Saving Grace Church in Indiana. She humbly exemplified the love of Christ to many who knew her, regardless of religious faith or affiliation. In retirement, Margie and Bill enjoyed 12 years of seasonal employment at Walt Disney World where they met new friends and invited family to join them each winter. Margie truly loved being a cast member and sharing the Disney experience with everyone who came to visit. Her favorite attractions were the Fantasmic show at Hollywood Studios, the fireworks at EPCOT, and the Raglan Road Irish pub at Downtown Disney. In addition to her husband, Bill, Margie is survived by four children and their spouses, all residing in Indiana: Amy Rogerson and her husband Steve, Leslie Poston and her husband, Mark, C. William Bill Bennett and his wife Diana, and Michael Bennett and his wife Laurie. Margies ten grandchildren are Hazel, Iris and Lily Rogerson, Garret and Spencer Poston, Charlie, Maggie and Wesley Bennett, Hayley Barrett and Wyatt Bennettall of whom will miss Mommom very much. Margaret was preceded in death by her sister Leslie Ward, by her parents, Margaret L. (Hewes) and James B. McKelvy. and her brother Robert McKelvy of Raleigh N.C. She is survived by brothers James, Patrick, Michael and Timothy and by her sister Kathleen Tomb. In addition to her immediate surviving family, Margie also leaves behind dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews who will all miss her gentle nature and remember her fondly. A memorial service to celebrate Margarets life will be held at Saving Grace Church on Friday at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to a charity of their choice in Margarets name. C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home in Homer City will be in charge of the arrangements. Interment will be a later time.
