Rose Marie (DeCarlo) Zelenski

Homer City

Rose Marie Zelenski, 94 of Homer City died Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born June 9, 1924, in McIntyre, PA, and was the daughter of Ralph DeCarlo and Elizabeth (Alloy) DeCarlo.

She was a homemaker and mother first and foremost and this was her love and passion. She also worked at Acme Dye Defense plant in Latrobe during World War II as Rosie the Riveter, the American Legion in Homer City after the war as a waitress where she met her future husband John Zelenski. They were married 2 months after they met. She also worked at Campus Sportswear in Indiana for several years and after that several years at the Holiday Inn in Indiana as a cook/salad girl. Her work ethic was exceptional and along with her husband John, they both were the perfect role models for their children and grandchildren.

Rose is survived by a son John E Zelenski and wife Deborah A of Friendswood, Texas; a daughter Joyce and husband Alan T. Cotroneo of Greensburg; eight grandchildren Darcie and husband Sam Dickinson, Amber and husband Ryan Delaney, Adam Zelenski, Shane Zelenski, and wife Bianca, Ryan Zelenski and wife Bri, Tara Cotroneo and husband Philip Marascalco, Alan A Cotroneo, Nina and husband Ryan Hurd; 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A brother Fred DeCarlo and wife Joan, and a sister Mary Potts and husband Donald, a sister-in-law Joan DeCarlo, and sister-in-law Cindy DeCarlo. Rose is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Rose was known as MawMaw to her grandchildren. This name was given to her by Darcie her first grandchild so she became MawMaw to all her other grandchildren after Darcie.

In addition to her husband John P Zelenski Rose was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Elizabeth DeCarlo, a sister Margaret Hilliard, brothers Anthony and Louie DeCarlo, sister-In-law Mary DeCarlo and brothers-in-law Bernard Hilliard, and also many sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law on her husband John's side of the family.

Friends will be received Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City. A Blessing Service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemine Site. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
