Sara Jane Danko, 89, of Homer City, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

Sara Jane was born September 9, 1936, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Jack and Violet (Craig) Oswalt. She was the oldest of three children. During her childhood, her family moved to Corry, Pennsylvania, before eventually relocating to Indiana County. She ultimately settled in Homer City, where she raised her family and became a familiar face in the community.

Sara Jane was a member of the Homer City Methodist Church. She was employed as a supervisor at the Indiana County Assistance Office for 22 years before retiring. She lived a life marked by compassion, strength, generosity, and deep devotion to her family.

Her greatest joy was supporting her children and grandchildren. She treasured being present for every school event, game, and milestone, always encouraging and cheering on those she loved.

Sara Jane had a generous heart and found great joy in cooking for her family and creating beautiful memories along the way. She loved to travel and see the world, enjoying the opportunity to explore new places. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. She spent many quiet hours creating beautiful crafts for her family and friends, showing her love through the things she made.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband John Danko, her daughters, Debbie Baroni and Barbie Thompson, brother, Jack Oswalt, sister in-law, Judy Oswalt, brothers-in-law, Larry Birk Sr. and George Wasko.


Sara Jane is survived by her loving daughter, Shirlee Tanner (Larry) of Homer City; sister, Janet Wasko; sons-in-law, Henry Baroni and Harvey Yanoschick; grandchildren, Kevin Tanner (Ellen), Craig Tanner (Dayna), Erin Roycroft (Stephen Pozgay), Ryan Roycroft (Kristen), Timothy Dobranski, and Taya Yanoschick. Twelve great-grandchildren, Ethan, Sydney, Sean, Brooke, Justin, Haleigh, Logan, Olivia, Luna, Max, Violet and Blake and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great nephews.


Friends will be received from 3:30 until the time of Funeral Service at 5:00 PM on Friday at the Homer City Methodist Church, Homer City. Private Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana.

Sara Jane leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, kindness, and devotion to family. Her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering support for those she loved will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
