Stanley John Kogut, 87, Homer City died Saturday, August 04, 2012 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late John and Victoria (Plis) Kogut and was born July 4, 1925 in Johnstown, PA. Stanley served in WWII in George Pattons 6th Armored Division landed on Utah Beach, fought the Battle of the Bulge and liberated Buchenwald concentration camp. He was a member of the Homer City American Legion Post # 493 and was awarded the Bronze Star. He loved being with his family, traveling and enjoyed sharing his garden, listening to polkas, dancing, supporting the Steelers and the Pirates and the company of his cat Holly. Retired from the coal, coke and construction industries in both Somerset and Indiana counties, he was a member of UMWA local #488, Lucernemines, Laborers 910 and Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Stanley is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Genevieve (Jean) Rzasa; Daughter Jeanne Wardrop and husband Dan of Sugar Land, TX; Son Jack Kogut and wife Lisa of Katy, TX; 5 grandchildren Nevin and Meggie Wardrop and Drew, Lexi and Derek Kogut; He is also survived by his sister Julia Kogut of Purcellville, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kogut was preceded in death by his sister Angeline (Nellie) Kolson and grandson Ethan Kogut. The family wishes to thank friends and caregivers for their love and support especially his niece Marilyn George, Dr. Richard Barnes and the staff at IRMC and The Caring Heart Home Health Agency. Friends and family may be received Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City where a vigil will be recited. A Blessing Service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemines Site with Father Ron Cyktor, the Celebrant. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Graveside Military Services will be conducted.
