Virginia Lea "Ginny" Carruthers (Myers), beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted member of her community, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Indiana, PA, at the age of 86.
She was born on February 17, 1940, in Huntingdon, PA, was raised in Mapleton Depot, and was a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania. Virginia made her home in Homer City, where she dedicated her time to her family and community.
A cherished homemaker, she also worked for several years at a coal gasification plant. She was a passionate volunteer, contributing her time to the Hoodlebug Festival, the Homer City Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and Eastern Star.
A faithful member of the Homer City United Presbyterian Church. Ginny, touched many lives while serving on various committees and as a deacon.
She took joy in painting ceramics, cooking, and reading, often sharing her family recipes.
Ginny is survived by her two sons, Brett Carruthers and his wife, Lisa, of Niagara Falls, NY, and Brad Carruthers of Centreville, VA, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas, Brianna, and Hannah, and her great-granddaughter, Mikayla. She is also survived by sister-in-law Theo (late Marty) Marietta.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carruthers, and her parents, J. Theodore and Elizabeth Myers.
Friends will be received on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Homer City. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Homer City United Presbyterian Church. Interment to follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana.
Virginia will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Homer City Fire Department, 25 West Church Street, Homer City, PA 15748
