William Robert Wensell

William Robert Wensell, 81, of Shelocta, passed away on September 21, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born August 18, 1944, in Indiana, PA, he was the son of the late Frances and Mary Ann (Kresho) Wensell.

Bill was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, where he practiced his faith throughout his life. He proudly served four years in the U.S. Army, including time stationed in Japan.

Bill was employed by Fisher Scientific, Johnstown Steel Mill, and later by Penelec, from which he retired in 1999 after being employed by them for two decades. He enjoyed the outdoors as a member of the Coral Graceton, Tide, and Shelocta Sportsmen’s clubs.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley (Gnibus) Wensell; his children, Michelle (John) Kvatek, Krista (Michael) Dunn, and Michael J. Wensell; and grandchildren Conor, Tyler, Victoria, Liam, Declan, Braden, and Collin. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Colton and Bailey; his siblings, John (Georgia) Wensell, Marlene (Mark) Schrager, Thomas (Connie) Wensell, and Barbara (Carl) Cobb; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Wensell, and his best friend and uncle, Peter Kresho, as well as several aunts and uncles.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the IRMC outpatient infusion nurses, UPMC Cancer Center (Pittsburgh), Dr. Rossetti and staff, Penn Home Health & Hospice, Dr. Nettleton and Melissa, and the OT/PT services at Anew for their compassionate care throughout Bill’s two-year battle with leukemia.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Homer City. A Blessing Service will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemines site.
