Glenn Logan Smyers, Sr.

January 23, 1938 — May 14, 2020

Coral

It is with endless sadness we share the passing of Glenn Logan Smyers Sr., 82, of Coral. On May 14, 2020, the admired husband, father, and grandfather was welcomed—and sent off— with loving family by his side; which ultimately gave him peace.

Glenn was born on January 23, 1938, in Indiana, Pennsylvania and married his wife of 61 years, Julia “Judy” (Mikeska) Smyers on January 24, 1959. Glenn is the son of Mirl and Alice (Fennel) Smyers of Clarksburg. He has been preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Susan, great granddaughter; Skyler, and siblings: Gordon, Scotty, Paul, Wilford, Jean (Weiss), Marylyn (Brown), Danny, and Emma (Schrack) Smyers.

Glenn selflessly served his country as a United States Paratrooper in the Army from 1955-58. Upon honorable discharge, he retired as a Bricklayer with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 9 PA, where he was a life member. You don’t have to look far to see one of his proud masonry projects that were constructed with perfection. He could be found on the greens of the Veteran of Foreign Wars golf resort or drinking coffee on the famous “patio” with loving family, friends, and always accompanied by lifelong neighbors Marcy and Ed Horchar. In Glenn’s younger days, he played and coached softball, bowled, hunted and fished. Pappy was also very devoted to being his grandchildren’s number one sports fan!

Glenn is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Smyers of Coral, children; Barbara Cripps of Coral, David “Butch” (Tracey) Smyers of Cherry Run, Julie Koren of Coral, and Glenn Jr. (Rhonda) Smyers of Coral, grandchildren; Krista Cripps of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Adam (Ashley) Koren of Homer City, Erin (Bill) Smyers of Cherry Run, Cory and Macy Koren of Coral, Logan Smyers of Greensburg, Justin, Alyssa, and Jared Smyers of Coral, great-grandchildren; Ashlyn, Liam, Jaxson, Gunner and Layla Cripps, Klyde and Esmay Koren, brother; Dennis “Blackie” (Marilyn) Smyers, and sister; Nancy Smyers Tomlinson.

Glenn was a member of the American Legion Post 493 and an honorary lifetime member of Redbarn Sportsman’s Club Inc.

Glenn was always known for his quick-wit, un-paralleled positivity, loving agitation, and self-considered “perfect specimen”. Those close to him would laugh at him saying, “Numero Uno” “Que Sera Sera” and “Nostrovia”. The ‘jack of all trades’ was always the ‘go-to’ answer for any member of the family in need of loyal help.

Although his treasured grandchildren have lost their biggest fan, he will never be forgotten by the priceless lessons taught over many great years and overwhelming amounts of love within the hearts of family and friends.

Due to the current heart-breaking and life-shattering health concerns, there will be no public services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Coral-Graceton Volunteer Fire Company in remembrance of Glenn.

“Well okay, I’ll see youns-guys later”
