Patricia "Patty" (Gnibus) Buzi

November 12, 1934 — November 24, 2023

Homer City

Patricia “Patty” Buzi, 89, of Homer City passed away on Friday November 24th, 2023, in Indiana Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Gnibus and was born on November 12th, 1934.

Patricia was happily married to the love of her life, Michael Buzi, for 64 years and was greeted in heaven by Mike. Patty was a loving mother to her two children, and a proud grandmother to her four grandchildren.

Patty was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, the Alter Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of America, and helped cook for many events and make Pierogis for the annual fund raiser. Patty was employed at the Indiana Regional Medical Center for many years as a Registered Nurse.  She retired as the Director of Nursing in 1996 to take care of her first grandchild. Being a nurse was one of Patty's proudest accomplishments, and she held onto that knowledge until the end. She adored the people she worked with and kept in contact with many friends she made while working.  Patty’s favorite title was being Grandma to her four grandchildren. She loved spending time with her grandchildren through sporting events, shopping, or the weekly Sunday family dinner that she and Mike would prepare for their family. Patty was especially looking forward to attending her grandson Bryan’s wedding in 2024 and used that as motivation to stay healthy.

Patty was a charter member of the Red Barn Sportsmans Club where she helped lead the ladies auxiliary. While at Red Barn, she especially enjoyed traveling with the “Good Timers” on their beach vacations. Patty also enjoyed her weekly hair appointments at Evolutions Salon with her late sister Marcy. They were founding members of the Evolutions “Coffee Club” and enjoyed making the girls laugh.  Patty also enjoyed spending time playing cards with her in-laws, Bern and Geneva Lazor as well as her sister and brother-in-law Marcy and Ed Horchar.

Patty loved to cook her family's traditional Slovakian recipes, and she was known for her Halupki, Pierogis, and Kolachi. Another talent she shared was her gift of sewing as she made many of her grandchildren's Halloween costumes through the years. Above all, Patty cherished her family and truly valued quality family time. She loved to spend time with her husband Mike, sitting on the porch drinking their coffee or going for drives. She and Mike rooted their family in faith and showed that nothing is more important than family.

Patty is survived by her son Mark (Veronica) Buzi of Homer City, daughter Beth (Jaison) Blystone of Shelocta, grandchildren Bryan Buzi (Fiancée Kylie McKirgan) of Arlington, Virginia, Tuscan Blystone, Rylin Blystone and Bowen Blystone of Shelocta. She is survived by her siblings Dorthy Barberich of Irwin, and John Gnibus of Coral, Sister-in-laws Jean Buzi and Joanna (Buzi) Kuta, and many nieces and nephews.

Welcoming her into heaven was her beloved Mike, her parents John and Mary Gnibus, sister Marcy and her husband Edward Horchar, baby brother Edward Gnibus and many special friends whom she dearly missed.

The family would like to thank Patty and Mike’s caregivers who helped provide comfort during the last years of their lives.
